Appendix C A Covenant Fire Catechism

The following fifty-two questions form an original teaching summary. Their answers inherit the status of the relevant chapters. They do not create additional adopted doctrine or replace the governing confession. Memorization should accompany understanding and Scripture reading.

1. Why do we study doctrine? To know and worship the triune God, understand His saving work, and live faithfully before Him and our neighbors. Read John 17:3; 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

2. What finally governs Christian doctrine? Canonical Scripture governs; interpretations, traditions, experiences, and leaders remain subject to examination by it. Read Acts 17:11; 2 Peter 1:20-21.

3. What does inspiration mean? The Spirit gave Scripture through human authors so that its teaching carries God's authority without erasing its human literary character. Read 2 Timothy 3:16.

4. What does scriptural sufficiency mean? Scripture supplies the normative teaching needed for salvation and faithful life, while practical decisions still require relevant knowledge and judgment. Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

5. Can our interpretations require correction? Yes. Finite readers can misunderstand; faithful teachers disclose uncertainty and revise conclusions when Scripture and evidence warrant. Read 2 Peter 3:15-18.

6. How many gods do Christians worship? Christians worship one God, eternally Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Read Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19.

7. Does God depend on creation? No. He gives life and sustains all things, receiving no unmet need from creatures. Read Acts 17:24-28.

8. Do God's love and justice conflict? No. His holy love and righteous judgment act together, supremely in Christ's cross. Read Romans 3:21-26.

9. Why did God create? Creation displays His glory and provides the world in which creatures receive life and fulfill His purposes. Read Psalm 19:1; Colossians 1:16.

10. What gives every human dignity? God's image, not intelligence, strength, wealth, ethnicity, health, or usefulness. Read Genesis 1:26-28; James 3:9.

11. What does providence mean? God sustains and governs creation through His wise purposes, including ordinary means and extraordinary works. Read Psalm 104; Romans 8:28.

12. Do we know why every tragedy occurs? No. We affirm God's goodness, lament honestly, resist evil, and care for sufferers without inventing hidden reasons. Read Job 38-42; John 11:35.

13. What constitutes sin? Sin includes rebellion, wrongful desire and action, neglected duty, and worship that turns from God. Read Romans 3:9-23; James 4:17.

14. What does total depravity teach? Sin corrupts every faculty and prevents unaided saving faith, without making every person maximally wicked. Read Romans 3:9-18; Ephesians 2:1-3.

15. Can angels receive worship? No. They serve God as creatures; worship belongs to God. Read Hebrews 1; Revelation 22:8-9.

16. Does an unexplained event prove demonic activity? No. Spiritual claims require evidence and must not replace competent medical, psychological, or safeguarding evaluation. Read 1 John 4:1; chapter 11.

17. How do God's covenants reach fulfillment? Their promises lead to Jesus Christ and His new covenant, through which His people receive forgiveness and renewed life. Read Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 8-10.

18. Who saves sinners? Jesus Christ alone, the eternal Son who became fully human while remaining fully divine. Read John 1:1-18; 1 Timothy 2:5-6.

19. Why does His humanity matter? He shares human life, obeys as our representative, suffers, and offers Himself for sinners. Read Hebrews 2:14-18.

20. Why does His deity matter? The Savior brings God's own identity, faithfulness, and saving sufficiency rather than the limited power of a created substitute. Read Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 1:1-4.

21. How does Christ serve as Prophet Priest and King? He reveals the Father, offers Himself and intercedes, and reigns over His people and history. Read Hebrews 1:1-4; Hebrews 7:25; Psalm 110.

22. What did the cross accomplish? Christ dealt with guilt and judgment, reconciled sinners, and defeated the powers through His obedient self-giving. Read Isaiah 53; Colossians 2:13-15.

23. What does particular redemption teach? Christ actually secured redemption for His people; His infinitely worthy sacrifice grounds a free gospel offer to everyone. Read John 10:11-18; chapter 15.

24. Did Christ rise bodily? Yes. God raised the crucified Jesus to transformed bodily life, guaranteeing His people's future resurrection. Read Luke 24; 1 Corinthians 15.

25. What does Christ do now? He reigns, intercedes, and gives the Spirit while His people await His return. Read Hebrews 7:25; Acts 2:32-36.

26. What does grace alone exclude? Every claim that human merit, status, ancestry, effort, or unaided decision supplies the saving basis. Read Ephesians 2:1-10.

27. What does unconditional election mean? God chose His people in Christ by mercy and purpose rather than foreseen faith or worthiness. Read Ephesians 1:3-6; Romans 9:10-18.

28. Why proclaim the gospel to everyone? Christ commands it, God uses proclamation to call people, and every person who comes to Christ receives welcome. Read Matthew 28:18-20; John 6:37.

29. What does regeneration accomplish? The Spirit gives spiritual life and renews the heart so a sinner willingly repents and trusts Christ. Read John 3:3-8; Titus 3:5.

30. What does repentance involve? Turning from sin toward God with honest grief, changed allegiance, and a desire for obedience. Read Acts 20:21; 2 Corinthians 7:10.

31. What does saving faith do? It receives and rests on Jesus Christ rather than offers personal achievement as a basis for acceptance. Read Romans 3:21-28.

32. What does justification grant? God declares the believer righteous on Christ's basis, received through faith apart from meritorious works. Read Romans 4-5.

33. What does adoption grant? Believers belong to God's family with access, fatherly care, and inheritance through Christ. Read Galatians 4:4-7.

34. What does sanctification produce? The Spirit forms growing holiness in desire, conduct, and relationships through a life of faithful obedience. Read Galatians 5:16-26.

35. Do good works purchase salvation? No. They display the fruit of living faith and serve God and neighbor. Read Ephesians 2:8-10; James 2:14-26.

36. Why do believers persevere? God preserves His children and uses His Word, warnings, discipline, and community to sustain their faith. Read John 10:27-30; Hebrews 3:12-14.

37. Where does assurance begin? With Christ's promise and finished work, supported by the Spirit's witness and the fruits of grace. Read Romans 8:15-17; 1 John 5:11-13.

38. Does every Christian receive the Spirit? Yes. Those who belong to Christ receive His Spirit; no particular gift establishes a superior class of believers. Read Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:13.

39. Why does the Spirit give gifts? For the body's common good, faithful witness, worship, service, and formation in love. Read 1 Corinthians 12:7; 1 Peter 4:10-11.

40. Do gifts prove mature character? No. Character, qualifications, and conduct require separate examination. Read 1 Corinthians 13; 1 Timothy 3:1-7.

41. How does CFC test spiritual speech? Under Scripture, with weighing, self-control, truthful evidence, correction, consent, and accountable oversight. Read 1 Corinthians 14:29-33; 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22.

42. Can prophecy compel a consequential decision? No. It cannot determine marriage, treatment, money, appointment, discipline, or surrender of rights and complaints. Read chapter 24; CF1 §2.8.

43. Does unanswered healing prayer prove weak faith? No. Pray earnestly and use competent care while entrusting outcomes to God. Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10; James 5:13-18.

44. What belongs to church life? Word, prayer, worship, ordinances, accountable care, correction, mutual service, and mission under Christ. Read Acts 2:42-47.

45. What does baptism signify? Identification with the triune God and Christ's death and resurrection, with cleansing and new life; CFC's recipients-and-mode policy remains unsettled. Read Romans 6:3-4; chapter 28.

46. What does the Supper proclaim? Christ's completed death, communion in Him, and hope of His return; it requires discernment and love for the body. Read 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 11:26-29.

47. How does CFC assign women's teaching and eldership? Qualified women can minister and occasionally teach a mixed gathering under delegated oversight; qualified men retain eldership and regular authoritative exposition. Read chapter 27; CF1 §2.10.

48. What governs Christian freedom? Scripture, love, truth, conscience formed by the Word, and respect for actual duties and the neighbor's good. Read Romans 14; Galatians 5:13-14.

49. Who belongs to God's redeemed people? Believing Jews and Gentiles united to the same Christ, without a separate saving path through ethnicity or nation. Read Ephesians 2:11-22; Romans 11:17-24.

50. What does CFC expect at Christ's return? One visible bodily return after tribulation, resurrection and transformation, gathering to Christ, final judgment, and everlasting new creation. Read chapter 36; CF1 §2.6.

51. Can AI determine doctrine or pastoral authority? No. It assists examination; accountable humans remain responsible, and Scripture supplies the final doctrinal norm. Read chapter 38; CF2 §8.

52. What mission directs Covenant Fire? Point people to Christ and His kingdom through FIND FOLLOW BRING, forming disciples who witness, serve, and disciple others. Read Matthew 28:18-20; CF1 §1.3.
